Matisse Thybulle Sweepstakes, Who Will Win?

With the NBA trade deadline tomorrow, SG Matisse Thybulle of the Philadelphia 76ers remains hot on the radar of multiple teams, sources say. Talks of trades involving Thybulle have been ongoing for what feels like forever now. With the trade deadline right around the corner, many believe a move for the player to be most logical, and likely to take place. As the deadline approaches, the teams in highest contention for the young defenseman appear to be the Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, and the Atlanta Hawks. Thybulle is currently set to become a restricted free agent following this season. Some believe that the Sixers organization wants to trade Thybulle as a way to increase cap space. This seems rather unlikely, seeing how the Sixers have had a rather successful season up to this point, with many predicting the forthcoming of a deep playoff run. It can be predicted that the organization will attempt to trade Thybulle away for a piece that can satisfy the team this season, which is currently in ‘win-now’ mode. While on the Sixers, Thybulle has established himself as being a strong defensive component. When it comes to his offensive abilities, it would appear that it is not exactly what the Sixers organization is looking for when it comes to filling that position. From last season to now, Thybulle’s playing time has been reduced to half. This is a prime indication that the organization is planning on moving on and trading the player. The Kings, Warriors, and Hawks have struggled to create defensive stability this season. The Warriors and Hawks, as of now, both hold the eighth seed in their conference and are battling for the chance at playoff contention this year. Both teams believe that Thybulle would serve as a significant piece in each of their respective pushes. The Kings currently hold the third seed of the western conference, but the competition is tight and subject to change at any given moment. The Kings are well aware that they cannot let up in their playoff hunt, and believe that acquiring Thybulle would bring a boost to their defensive performance, as well as the contention chances of the entire team. It will be interesting to see how things play out for both Matisse Thybulle as well as the Sixers organization come the trade deadline
